Outdoor industry CEOs back the administration’s record on public lands

An impressive group of 27 CEOs of some of the largest outdoor recreation companies sent a letter to President Obama and Interior Secretary Sally Jewell with one clear message:

Thank you for promoting cleaner energy policies and protecting America’s $646-billion outdoor recreation economy!

President Obama understands that access to clean and unspoiled public lands drives the economy in the west and that an imbalanced approach to managing public lands has put them, and the jobs they support, at risk. He’s taken many commonsense steps to protect those lands and the communities, businesses and families that rely on them.

The letter, from CEOs representing iconic companies including Patagonia, Clif Bar, Burton, Red Wing Shoes, Kleen Kanteen, Black Diamond, and Outdoor Research, among others, lists the Obama Administration’s actions to:

  • Create a “from the start” process for developing renewable energy on public lands
  • Reform the flawed federal coal-leasing program
  • Protect river and streams often damaged by industrial waste removal
  • Implement a planning tool to protect rivers, trails and other destination from oil and gas development

The full letter can be found here.
